About

airplane_sunsetA few years ago, I started doing a lot of traveling for business.  And that travel involved flying from one major North American city to another.  This travel often went on every week for months at a time.  I flew to Philadelphia every week for about 11 months.  I then flew from the east coast to San Francisco every week for another five months.  After that, I flew into Massachusetts for another 4 months.  To say I was racking up air miles was an understatement.  For the five months I was flying to San Francisco I was earning one free flight with the continental US about every week and a half.  I actually lost count of the number of times I was upgraded to first class for free, just because of me privileged flying status with the airline.   But, the one thing I learned after all this, was how tricky it can be to cash in all those points when you decide to travel somewhere for fun.  There is a system at work here, and the key to being successful with it, is to understand the rules and loopholes.  This website should help in that regard.

The other thing I learned about air miles, is that it’s not always all about me.  There are now numerous worthwhile charities you can donate your travel points to.  Some of these are incredibly beneficial towards people who are disadvantaged, and don’t have the means to travel at times they really need to.  So if you don’t the time to cash in your air miles, then why not be a hero, and give them to someone who really needs them and can benefit the the most.  One such program is operation hero miles and another is the make a wish foundation.
