Anymore, people assume that when someone buys something made from leather it is considered a luxury item. Technically, in most cases, this is true. Getting leather interior for a new car is a fine example of how leather only symbolizes excess and not necessity. But, what about when it comes to traveling? Certainly there are necessities when traveling apart from an itinerary and open mind for detours. What about luggage? What about leather luggage?

It would be a hard sell to tell you that you didn’t need to get any luggage for a trip that required you to pack things. There are a ton of different brands making all different types from all different types of materials, leather included.

But are there any real benefits to buying leather luggage over other types?

The answer is yes. For starters, luggage is something that may or may not see a lot of use. For either of these options, getting leather could easily be a better route to take when purchasing it. Leather itself is one of the longest lasting materials that we have, so you will have this luggage for quite some time. This opens the doors for all kinds of things, such as passing them on to family members who are reaching the point in their lives when they look to see the country, or even the world. So you can be sure that even though your luggage might have been out of commission from your use for a while, it will still get the job done effectively for the next person who inherits it.

Another point to be made is that leather products in general can take a beating. Have you ever gotten the opportunity to look outside a plane window when they are loading luggage (with blatant disregard) onto the conveyor belt into the plane? Sometimes your bag travels four or five feet through the air before hitting that belt. This is not the only factor; typical travel situations present several times that you can ding up or tear your luggage. Likely, in time, this will break down the components of other luggage types, but leather was made to take abuse.

More over, leather duffel bags just looks better than other types. It is not hard to aesthetically compare leather made luggage to that of other types like tweed. Leather can come in an array of classy colors they have dyed the leather which tends to always look really sleek and trendy. The usual alternative in tweed presents a stitch of 3 colors that looks much like any other tweed suitcase out there.

Leather luggage doesn’t tend to be as boxy as other types either. Some might consider this a downfall, but I don’t really think so. Leather luggage in general, to my estimation of personal experience can fit the same amount or more (to other comparable sizes) without the need to look boxy. This is more of an added bonus than a selling point though, since you can find a piece of luggage to hold just as much with another type.

So, in my opinion, leather luggage is the way to go. It looks better, works better, and lasts longer. These are the things people look for in quality luggage. So, start a tradition with a suitcase.
