Being able to put your work life on hold at a certain point in the year to abandon all of your responsibilities and ago on a vacation is one of the most rewarding experiences anyone can go through. It is no secret that many people indoor less than satisfying jobs throughout the year in an effort to let loose and go vacation at least once annually. Relaxing and hanging out in the sun without having to perform the usual mentally and physically taxing duties of your regular work life is an incredible experience, but oftentimes due to uneventful planning before hand, it winds up being less of a positive experience than it should be.

Below I will list three very helpful tips that will come in handy during the planning a portion of your vacation, ensuring that you can enjoy all of the useful benefits of a vacation.

Make sure you research the customs of your destination location if it is somewhere outside of your home country. Many different countries throughout the world have specific customs that directly clash with the customs of your own homeland. Sometimes this can result in confusion and perceived signs of disrespect, making it very vital that you understand how to act in a new location.

Another incredibly useful thing to perform while packing is to utilize a toiletries bag while you are packing up your belongings. These specialized bags are specifically made to handle the important items from your bathroom that you will need in order to get yourself ready each day while on vacation. It isn’t fun to have to wander around a new place and track down the standard items you have grown accustomed to using in your own home throughout the years. When you factor in the price of toiletry bags, purchasing one is an incredibly obvious move.

Another excellent thing to remember is to bring many methods of entertainment to keep you occupied while you were doing the actual traveling to your vacation destination. This includes battery operated DVD players, iPODs and laptops.

The following three independent hotels in Ballybunion are great examples that combine great rooms, views and dining.

Entering the grounds at Glin Castle is like traveling back to another time as you make your way along tree lined lawns towards the stark white castle. The castles interior is just as carefully furnished with a traditional feel, without seeming old or worn.

The popular restaurant has a large menu of modern Irish cuisine which combines old recipes with contemporary preparations and great local produce. An after-dinner walk in the castles walled gardens is also a necessary treat of any stay here. The nearby Shannon estuary is a popular fishing spot while golfers will wish to play a round at the nearby Ballybunion Golf Club.

For some extra pampering on your vacation, a stay at the Ballygarry House Hotel has the added benefit of enjoying the co-located spa with traditional seaweed baths, thermal treatment suites and the ubiquitous mud wraps.

These treatments are complemented nicely by the selection of comfortable guest rooms with views across the manor gardens. The award winning restaurant is also worth special mention for its menu of classic dishes, lovingly prepared using the best seafood, meat and produce from within Kerry.

Finally, the 12-room Ballyseede Castle is a unique experience due to its divine architecture and luxurious bathrooms. Given its small size it can make for a very personable stay. Each individually designed guest room has a classic elegance and the common and dining rooms sport extravagant plasterwork and ornate fireplaces.

The tourist trail around Kerry is rightly popular for its great scenery and selection of romantic villages. Any of the above hotels in Ballybunion would make a truly memorable location to base oneself while exploring this most beautiful county in Ireland.

The standard of Doolin hotels and guest-houses has risen over the past few years as well-traveled visitors have come to expect service, comfort and modern amenities in their lodgings. The 3 and 4 star hotels in Doolin listed below are a selection of the best the area has to offer.

The Tir Gan Ean hotel is a 4 star boutique hotel that has been a remarkable addition to the area. The Celtic styled exterior is matched inside by funky decor and plasma screens. The 12 guest rooms are large and contemporary in design and it is clear no expense was spared on fittings, under floor heating, etc.

The friendly staff make this a most personable place to stay and the hotel breakfast is not to be missed for its menu of culinary treats (scrambled egg with Burren smokehouse salmon and home-made banana bread to name just two).

The old darling of Doolin has got to be the country manor style Aran View House Hotel. The beautiful building and manicured perfectly reflect the picturesque views out to the Aran Islands (visible from all west facing rooms).

The 19 guest rooms have kept their traditional furnishings, without being tatty or worn, and the restaurant makes great use of the seafood (landed daily at Doolin harbor) and local produce on its menu of culinary delights. As if that wasn’t enough the hotel bar plays host in summer to musicians playing traditional Irish music (something the town is famous for).

Finally, in the heart of town lies the Ballyvara Guest House. This hotel can cater to all manner of group types and sizes with its range of twin, double, family, luxury suites and studio guest rooms. All rooms are kitted out with power showers and modern amenities while some even sport spa/Jacuzzi baths.

Any visitor to Doolin Ireland will love to explore the attractions along the coast. Any of the hotels in Doolin listed above would make a great base from which to start your exploring and also enjoy the great food that the area is famous for.

And who does this? Well this is a term that has been tagged for those travelers that who are our backpacking the world, but have started swaying the impression of backpackers from gypsy type vagabonds to hipsters taking advantage of technology throughout the world, and staying connected. Since the internet can now be found virtually anywhere, it gives all travelers a perfect opportunity to stay connected.

It’s still an old way of traveling, but with just a few more toys added to their travel gear. Travelers now have ipods, digital cameras, laptops, and video cameras. Travelers want to share their experiences with the world. They want to upload pictures, update their status, stream video, and all of this requires electronics.

Because of the growing movement of the number of travelers that want or need this equipment with them when they travel, hostels and other budget accommodations have to offer wifi to stay competitive. It would be very difficult for a flashpacker to not have wifi let alone internet access. Nowadays, you also see many college age kids who grew up completely on the internet traveling the world. This has always been a way of life, so it is not as much of a sacrifice to take out the old boy scout gear and replace it with a laptop.

You will still see those that are flashpacking wanting flexible schedules, cheap transportation, and affordable accommodations. Just because they travel with a bit more technology doesn’t mean they are out to splurge on everything. For them, it is a nice balance between nice and reasonable.

But, regardless of of what’s in their backpack, they are still travelers, and still want to experience the world without much more than what they can carry around with them. Priorities in regards to what is important have just changed a bit.

It gives an intimate glimpse into a backpacker’s life, and as such, shows what being a backpacker truly means.

Before A Map for Saturday, solo travelers were always conveyed in travel movies as being gypsies or hippies. There was always a slight judgement about the solo traveler’s way of life. Now, finally, backpackers are shown for whom they are, everyday people who want to experience a life changing adventure and see the world.

The places themselves merely serve as backdrops to the backpackers’ experiences as they deal with the ups and downs of solo travel. Through the director, Brook Silva-Braga’s own experiences, the film captures the depth and breadth of the backpacking experience.

The film is both compelling and spontaneous as it only serves as a bystander to the real life experiences that it captures. The movie effectively shows how important long-term travel can be to one’s life and personal discovery. And by the end, shows how it can change a person, as Silva-Braga remarks that he cannot imagine going back to regular life.
As more and more people are choosing to embark on solo backpacking trips, this movie effectively shows the faces of today’s backpackers. It breaks down many of the old stereotypes about what kind of a person a backpacker is, and proves that long-term travel can be an amazing and addictive adventure that can change a person forever.

There are many different forms of travel writing. The genre encompasses many different forms and subject areas. You can write for guide books, magazines, newspapers, websites, travel agencies, or you can become a travel author. You can also write on virtually any subject area relating to travel including ecotourism, hotel accommodations, honeymoons, and food and beverage just to name a few.

You should make sure you want to be a travel writer for the right reasons. Even though it is great getting to travel the world for a pay check, this shouldn’t be your main reason. If you are a keen and observant traveler and a great writer (even better if you have some experience) then you can become successful.

Read some books on the subject of how to be a travel writer. The advice in these books are always spot on. Before sending proposals to publications you will need to do research on them. Make sure to send well researched and written proposals, and write about interesting subjects that you are truly interested in – it will show in your writing and make your piece more interesting as a result. Most importantly, make sure that everything you are sending is the best that it can be, and adhere to deadlines.

Remember that it will take a lot of time and effort to get yourself noticed and published. It will take a lot of proposal writing and marketing yourself in order to win writing jobs. Start off small. Take jobs for your local newspaper’s travel section writing about local travel stories. You’ll be paid next to nothing but it will give you a starting point and some experience to build off of. Remember to always ask for feedback on every article you submit so that you can continue to improve.  Don’t forget to spruce up your image as a freelancer with a professional appearance.  A nice company logo from a free logo design resource might be a good place to start.

If you love to travel, then getting paid to travel and write about your experiences would be your dream job. Travel writing is one of the most exciting jobs there is, but it is a lot of work. It is not all glitz and glamour. If you think you have what it takes to write about what you love while you travel the world, then read on.

As a travel writer you have the opportunity to write about a variety of different subjects including, adventure travel, art and architecture, b&b’s, ecotourism, dangerous places, city guides, honeymoons, food and drink, nightlife, family travel, and many more. There are hundreds of publishers for travel guide books, travel magazines, websites, and newspapers that constantly require articles. This translates into opportunities for you to get published and make money.

It can be difficult to learn how to be a travel writer, in that it can be hard to get your foot in the door and it can also prove difficult learning to be succinct. Magazines and newspapers prefer tightly written copy to rambling, long-winded descriptions. These publications are small on space and so prefer short articles. Getting all your information to fit into a small space is a special skill. You can take travel writing courses that will teach you how to write concisely to help get you published.

Writing short pieces is also the best way to get your foot in the door at large publications. The magazine or newspaper will not be taking a large risk on you if you fail the assignment and it’s a good way to prove you have talent. You have to start somewhere, and you will need to work your way up to writing for large publications where you can write lengthy well thought out features.

RTW is the common abbreviation for round the world, and if you are planning a round the world trip, chances are you have heard of this. Round the world tickets allow you to take multiple stops as you complete your journey. The process of how to purchase one can be confusing, so here is some information on Round The World Tickets and what you should know about them.

Buying an RTW ticket is much cheaper than trying to purchase tickets individually or in the way they do on the Amazing Race. A benefit to purchasing an RTW is that because you are going to be purchasing your tickets way in advance, you will end up spending less money than if you were to purchase as you need them. Last minute ticket purchases can be very expensive.

When planning to purchase an RTW ticket, you will need to have a rough itinerary of all the cities you will want to visit and when. A travel agent can help you find the best route for your money, and will also do all the hard work to find the best deals. You will need to plan ahead and start thinking about your RTW ticket plans about 2 months before your departure, as it will take a lot of time and effort for your travel agent to get everything just right.

By using an agency that specializes in RTW tickets, you can normally get very cheap airfare trips that will end up saving you a lot of money. And because they specialize in these types of trips, they will usually get extra deals from airlines because of all the business they generate.

Your route is calculated in one of two ways, either by how many miles you intend on flying, or by the number of continents you are visiting. If your trip is going to use more miles than are allowed by your ticket, you can purchase extra miles or purchase a ticket that allows more.

Having an RTW ticket, will eliminate a lot of hassle and stress as you will have all of your flights organized and booked for you.

They are loyalty programs offered by most airlines that reward customers for flying with them. Once you enroll, you accumulate points according to the distances you’ve flown over a period of time. You can then redeem your frequent flyer miles for free air travel, or for other goods and services, or even for increased benefits like priority booking and airport lounge access. If you are a frequent traveler, it could be very beneficial for you to join some frequent flyer programs.

Using a frequent flyer program is a good way to end up with cheap airplane tickets or even free tickets. The only problem with these programs is that you normally receive fewer points for traveling economy or when purchasing discounted tickets.

If you have purchased an RTW ticket for a long-term trip, frequent flyer programs often reward points for even flying with their sister airlines. This will allow you to earn points a lot faster and regardless of what part of the world you are flying in. This means that many times upon returning home from your RTW trip, you will have a free flight waiting for you for your next trip.

A downside of these programs is that points eventually expire. If you don’t use your existing points within a period of time they will expire, and also if you don’t use your card over a certain period of time your points will expire. This just gives you an excuse to travel more often!

Many programs also allow you to obtain points not just through flying. You can get points by using your card at participating hotels, car rentals, and restaurants. You can also get credit cards that allow you to obtain points through purchases made with the card. And, the more you fly in a year, the more benefits your program will grant you.
